California said today that it has awarded 10 MDOs (Microenterprise Development Organizations) with $25,000 in seed money as part of its Microenterprise Technicals Assistance Program (MTAP). This program was launched in 2006 and reinforces AT&T's ongoing commitment to help strengthen the self serving and employed entrepreneurs of California. This year's funding was focused on benefiting organizations that provide assistance to business owners that are women of color.
"AT&T is committed to enhancing and strengthening opportunities for minority-owned businesses in California," said Ken McNeely, President, AT&T California. "That's why we're proud to support this year's MTAP recipients and the outstanding work they are doing to ensure that small business owners - especially women of color - have the training, counseling and mentoring needed to be successful in today's competitive marketplace."
"It is so important right now to invest in programs that can stimulate jobs and economic growth in our communities," said United States Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D- Sacramento). "Organizations focused on providing training and mentoring for small businesses, especially for women and minority populations, can make a real impact because those businesses are the driving force behind our local economies."
The 10 organizations that received the funding demonstrated a proven track in giving training and technical assistance to the low and moderate-income aspiring and those that already exist business owners across the state of California.
