Best Apps for Business Travelers

By Malcolm Bohall on 2009-12-04 16:39:33

If you are always on the road for your business and have an iPhone in your possession, here are 11 of the best apps you should consider having.
Spots, The WiFi Hotspot Directory - This $1.99 app is the perfect solution for finding all the local Hotspots. Even with the 3G network, you'll more than likely need a hookup for your laptop with the good-ole WiFi. Spots works offline by matching your location to a database of half a million worldwide hotspots.
Kayak Flight and Hotel Search - This is a free app that works as your personal travel agent. Take out your iPhone and you can instantly see prices for airlines and hotels, then simply make your choice and immediately your reservations will be made or you can be in contact with the airliner or hotel.
FlightTrack Pro - This is a $9.99 app that provides all flight information you need to catch your flight. You will receive weather maps and full flight listings, and it will store multiple automatically updating travel itineraries. You will also be notified of any alerts relating to your flight, such as: delays, weather warnings and cancellations.
iTrans, Subway Guide - This app ranges from free to $3.99 and is ideal for cities like London, Chicago and New York City. You will get precise directions and time estimates from station to station and automatically pdates for service advisories; best of all, it works underground!
Taxi Magic - This free app connects the iPhone's GPS with local dispatch systems to send a taxi to your location at the tap of a button. Payment works over the phone via an online credit account. However, this app works properly in close to 30 major US cities with limited function around the US and Canada.
Spotasauras, Parking - This $1.99 app is the perfect solution for travelers with a car. Parking can be hectic in cities you aren't familiar with and this app will match the iPhone's current location to a database of information about parking garages to find the cheapest and nearest garages for guaranteed parking. This app works in major cities around the world.
Convert - Tis $1.99 app will convert anything you need at the touch of a button. You will be able to convert almost anything! Dollars to pounds (with up-to-the-second rates), yards to kilometers, feet to meters, joules to calories, pixels to picas, inches to centimeters and more. It's visually appealing and offers a basic calculator on one side.
Right Signature - This free app is for PDFs that require a signature; this app will allow you to make legally binding signatures from your phone with your finger. Once you have the perfect signature saved, you can reuse it for all documents; however, this app is free for trials, and requires a paid monthly plan for unlimited signatures.
The World Factbook '09 - This $0.99 app is for perusal on your flight abroad, a compendium of historical, economical and demographical info on all destinations. It's updated regularly and can be used offline; although dry for tourists, it is great for businessmen, students and other serious travelers.
AT&T Virtual Receptionist - This free app gives you a second line while out of the office. You will receive an 888 area code, which offers a way for clients to call you without being charged for long distance. The line is only for 60 minutes and then it carries over for an additional fee.
ACTPrinter - This $0.99 app allows you to "print" documents from your Mac to your iPhone. Digital documents are easier to carry, simple to email and good for the environment. It works well with boarding passes and electronic tickets, which can be scanned directly from the screen.
