Entrepreneurship Saves Burn Victims' Lives

One of the most tragic injuries any person can suffer is severe burns. Literally within the last 2 decades this type of injury has gone from nearly always fatal due to infection to now being highly treatable.
One of the new very important additions was created by inventor and entrepreneur George T. Rodenheaver, Richard F. Edlich and Sherry Sutton. The product, known as PluroGel, is antimicrobial and, importnatly, thickens in higher temperatures and cools in lower temperatures.
Because of the delicate nature of skin that has been damaged by flame, it is important that any type of topical solution be easily removed so as not to stick to and further damage the skin. PluroGel can be easily removed with cool water as the temperature shift from skin-temp to the water-temp is enough to liquify the Gel.
The invention was enough to earn him the 008 Edlich Henderson Inventor of the Year Ward from the University of Virginia Health Systems.
