Facebook Files Suit Against Start-Up

The Brazilian start-up was only trying to be helpful. Power.com hoped to become a portal with one-site access to a variety of social networking sites. Individuals establish an account, provide their usernames and passwords for the various other sites, and then can, through Power.com, view the various social networking sites in a single location as if they were logged into those sites. However, they never actually visit sites like Facebook.
Facebook claims to have discussed their complains with Power.com without resolution. In the end, Facebook has filed suit against the start-up in an attempt to enforce their terms of service and assure that their user's security was protected. They argue that Power.com stores and utilizes Facebook login data and copyrighted material without permission. Additionally, the lawsuit also mentions spam emails sent by Power.com, which claimed to come from "The Facebook Team" with email addresses ending in "facebookmail.com", that contained advertisements for Power.com. This is not the first time Facebook has took action against Power.com. In December of 2008, when Power.com first began publicity in the United States, the company filed a complaint against the company. Almost two weeks after filing said complaint, Power.com responded that they would still implement the Facebook connection feature of the site. Facebook then blocked access to the site from Power.com.
Power.com says they will continue to work with Facebook to try and reach an agreement that allows them to access the site by the end of January.
