Feedback: Your Employees Need It and Want It

Kristi Hedges Entrepreneur.com offers some helpful guidelines for entrepreneurs with employees for what she calls "the art of giving feedback." She notes that each leader needs to find her or his own style of providing feedback, but also that there are general guidelines that can help everyone in that pursuit:
1.
Catching Greatness: Make it a point to find things employees are doing well, then give sincere and specific praise.
2.
Golden Rule with a Twist: When it comes time for criticism, correction, or critique, remember to give it as you would like to receive it. But even better, try to give it as you sense the recipient would like to receive it. Keep in mind that as a high-powered entrepreneurial-type, you might like things more "straight up" than other people might.
3.
More About Critiquing: Hedges advises bringing bad news in private, face-to-face, using "I" statements, using specific language, and confirming that the recipient has accurately heard what you meant to have them understand.
