Korea Would Benefit from More Foreign Entrepreneurs

According to a story in the Korea Herald, the head of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, Simon Bureau, is urging the Korean government to pay more attention to the contributions of individual Korean entrepreneurs working overseas.
Bureau noted that "much has been said about the need to foster a better environment for foreign investments in Korea; however, not enough attention has been given to promoting foreign entrepreneurship, while the focus has consistently been on large capital investments from multinational corporations."
According to a Harvard University researcher, more than half the Silicon Valley start-ups of the last decade were founded by immigrants. These companies had sales of $52 billion in 2005.
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea recently sponsored a panel discussion aimed at encouraging a reversal of this trend: encouraging non-Korean entrepreneurs to come and invest in Korea.
