QUOTE OF THE MONTH

Without the strength to endure the crisis, one will not see the opportunity within. It is within the process of endurance that opportunity reveals itself.

Authentic Marketing and Success Require You to Look Within
Fabienne Fredrickson

Let's face it: being self-employed, our businesses are fundamentally a reflection of every part of us. It's not like working for a corporation where you don't really control the outcome of the business unless you're at the top. Who you and I "are" as people literally affects our businesses, every day, every minute, every second, with every breath.

Knowing that the "inner" is directly reflected in the "outer," it's especially so for those working solo. If there's turmoil or disconnection within you as a person, it will be reflected in your business. If there's purpose, acceptance, and alignment, things come to you without struggle.

For me personally, this past year has been a year of reflection and re-gearing for the next level of my business, almost an incubation phase. I've come to the realization that I needed to stop listening to so many OTHER people's opinions of the next journey for my business and needed to look inside. And that included seeing what's authentic, what my purpose is, and what I'm here to do with my clients. It's been about healing the past GUNK that's often stopped me and about strengthening WHO I am as a person, to then best fulfill what I'm here to do (and create an even more delicious business doing it).

Years ago, I thought that attracting clients was 100% about fancy marketing. I was wrong. The longer I am in business and the longer I work on my own spiritual and personal growth, the more I've gotten clear that attracting clients and having the business of your dreams is actually more a 3-slice pie. Sure, Marketing is one of those slices, and a very important one (hey, you've got to take ACTION to attract clients. No excuses).

5 Things I Learned from Being A Young Entrepreneur
Leah Larson

I never thought of myself as a businesswoman. I actually thought of myself as a kid. That's because at the age of twelve I sort-of landed in my own business, and the rest is history. Now I'm seventeen, and my business, Yaldah magazine, has grown tremendously. I've learned quite a bit about running a business throughout these five years, and I've learned that it really can be fun! But if I had to narrow it down to the five most important things I've learned, it would be:

1. Notice a Niche

I never decided to start a business. What I wanted was a magazine for Jewish girls, and when I saw that there was no magazine like that available, I decided to create my own. I figured that if I wanted a magazine like Yaldah, there must be many other girls out there looking for the same thing. And I was right. As soon as the first issue came out, word of mouth spread quickly and I soon had hundreds of subscribers. A business has to fill a need, and who's a better person to identify what you need than yourself?

2. Act on a Dream

It all started with a dream of mine, and it could have ended with the dream as well. The hardest part is to act on your dream, even when everyone else doubts you can do it. As a twelve-year-old with no experience in the publishing business, people had valid reason for thinking that it was impossible for me to succeed. But I kept my dream in mind and my goal in sight and moved forward, learning from my mistakes. Sometimes to everyone else your brilliant idea is just impractical and, well, just a dream. Believe in your idea and you can make it happen.

"The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur"
Mike Michalowicz

In garages, basements, spare rooms and even dorm rooms all across America, hard-working dreamers are launching businesses right this minute. The thought of this really gets me going.

I'm all about the underdog, the passionate entrepreneur with a small amount of cash and a huge heart. I refer to these people as Toilet Paper Entrepreneurs, the resourceful men and women who can get by on three sheets. They find a way to make it happen, even if they are at the end of their roll.

The best ideas come from having precious few resources, and yet so often people see this as lack, an obstacle to their success. On the flip side, many businesses throw money at problems the very second the cash starts flowing in, thereby eliminating the magic of necessity.

Toilet Paper Entrepreneurs work miracles with just three sheets - or less - even when they have a warehouse full of stockpiled toilet paper. Here's how you can too:
