Black bears are among some of the cutest animals on the planet that come across as horrible brutes. They are seen as destructive in camp grounds and as dangers on hiking trails; any camper or hiker can tell you that a black bear is not something you want to reconcile with in its territory. However, black bears are also sought after for their bile, this green digestive juice is stored in their gall bladder and has produced some amazing feats for our medical worries. Bear bile is used as an anti-inflammatory alongside other ingredients like tiger bone, cow bezoar and deer musk.
The Chinese government has discouraged misuse of these bears and has employed a new method to harvest bear bile without causing harm to the bears. Black bears will now be bred for bear bile processing and storage and the bears will be treated with humane care and given decent "homes".
Black bears are also believed to help prevent bone loss, they have a hormone that can help immobilized patients with osteoporosis. More testing can bring high hopes to thousands in wheelchairs and hospitals, black bears could very well be our new miracle animal of the decade.
