Venture Capital Fundraising Continues Decline in Q3
By Mark Summe on 2009-10-12 15:24:38
Investments in U.S. venture capital funds are on the downturn, the Venture Capital Journal says. For the first three quarters of this year, only 86 U.S. funds raised money; and if this trend is maintained, there will be only about 110 new funds by year's end. To give a different perspective, the third quarter of this year only produced 17 venture capital funds that raised $1.6 billion - the smallest number since the third quarter of 1994. Venture capital fundraising has been on the decline since the end of 2007. Since then, less than $37 billion has been raised. Mark Heesen, president of the National Venture Capital Association, expects to see a reduction in the number of firms as well as venture capital professionals.
